The Shame and the Glory - Scharnhorst and Glorious

The loss of HMS Glorious was a terrible Royal Navy tragedy of WW2.  Gallantry, incompetence and chivalry all played a part in this desperate saga of the moral dilemma that war creates between common humanity and military duty but which also shows  how shared suffering and hardship can forge bonds of national friendship that endure for generations - in this case between UK and Norway.

Lt Col Richard Williams OBE, MA, BA.

Richard completed 35 years military service in the RAF and then TA, with operational service in Ulster, Lebanon, Somalia and the Balkans. As an FCO contract officer he was Deputy High Representative of Bosnia to Lord Ashdown for which he was appointed OBE and more recently he was Director of Ops for OSCE in the southern Balkans. He has worked as defence consultant in Whitehall for various organisations and now lectures on military history and UK Defence.
